What Technology Should I Bring to Campus?

Use our Checklist for Academic & Residential Technology to prepare for your first day on The Heights! 💻🐬

Personal Computers

Log into Confluence with your Le Moyne username and password for the Le Moyne IT Self-Help Guide for Laptop Device Specifications for Learning, Teaching, and Working at Le Moyne

Students should purchase a computer they are most comfortable with. Le Moyne College supports both Macintosh and Windows devices. Most academic programs do not have a requirement for a specific platform; however, if a student needs recommendations, they may connect with their program director.

Please note: Chromebooks do NOT meet our online exam software's system requirements. Because of this we do NOT recommend Chromebooks

We recommend students purchase a computer with the fastest processor, the most RAM, and the largest hard drive storage they can afford. For minimum requirements, we strongly recommend the following:

  • 7th Generation Core i5 processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) Display
  • Currently Supported Windows or Mac Operating System
  • Active and Current Security Software
  • Wireless-AC (802.11ac)
  • An Ethernet port that is compatible with your computer

These specifications should satisfy most students for their education at Le Moyne.

  • If you have a Mac computer, you can learn how to find your device’s specification here
  • If you have a Windows  computer, you can learn how to find your device’s specification here

Please consult with the Service Desk if you have any questions about personal computer Specifications.

We have partnered with Dell for discount pricing on select devices. You can find these special offers listed at dell.com/lemoyne.

Antivirus Software

We require that all students have up-to-date anti-virus software on their computers. This software ensures that your Windows or Mac remains safe and free of malware, ransomware, or even troublesome adware. At a minimum, the use of the built-in MacOS or Windows Defender antivirus is required. There are also free anti-virus softwares that are Mac/Windows compatible.

Two great suggestions are Bitdefender Free and Avira.

We also recommend having Anti-malware installed on your computer.

For this, we recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Printers

Students are allotted free quota per semester to allow them to complete their academic tasks. Students are able to use several printers across campus to print locally or from their personal computer. For this reason, we do not recommend bringing your own printer to Campus. If you bring your own printer to campus, it must be wired to your computer with the Wireless function disabled. Information Technology will disable printers conflicting with the wireless network.

Television Capabilities

Le Moyne College has recently changed over TV vendor usage to Charter Spectrum and their university service, SpectrumU. Spectrum Cable is available in dorm common areas, live TV and on-demand show and movie access across more than 80 network channels. To learn how to use SpectrumU visit How to use SpectrumU

Smart TV's and other Smart Devices

Devices without an Ethernet Port are not compatible with Le Moyne College’s Network. The list includes, but is not limited to:

  • Streaming devices (Roku, Firestick, Chromecast)
  • Smart Home devices (Amazon Echo, Google Home)
  • Nintendo Switch

Please consult with the Service Desk if you are unsure if your device has an Ethernet Port.
