What Technology Should I Bring to Campus?

Collapse All Expand All

We require all students to have up to date anti-virus software on their computers. At a minimum, the use of the built-in MacOS or Windows Defender anti-virus is required. There are free anti-virus softwares that are Mac/Windows compatible. This software ensures that your Windows or Mac remains safe and free of malware, ransomware, or even troublesome adware. Here are some suggestions:

Bitdefender Free and Avira.

We also recommend having an Anti-malware installed on your computer, we recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Please contact the Service Desk with any questions about system anti-virus software.

If you bring a TV to campus, we've prepared some guidelines and recommendations for you (click on any title to read more).  You can also visit our providers website, Campus Televideo, for more information on Cable TV.

For the channel line up, contact Campus Life here.

Those that live in the Le Moyne College Theme Houses on Springfield Road, Thompson Road, Demong Drive, and Fayette Boulevard should be advised that they do not come with cable. You and your roommates may order cable at your discretion from a local service provider.

Microsoft offers special pricing for higher education students. Visit Microsoft Office for Education for more information. NOTE: The portal login for Office 365 and subsequent downloads and licensing of Office 365, is a service of MICROSOFT, not Le Moyne College and we do not have any control over issues experienced.

HBO Go is available to every student living on campus. Visit hbogo.com, sign in, and select Le Moyne College as your provider.  Use your Le Moyne username and password to sign in. HBO GO is only available when on campus. Dowload more information about HBO Go

The question we get asked most often is "should I get a Mac or PC?" In short,  students should purchase a computer on the platform they are most comfortable with.  Most academic programs do not have a requirement for a specific platform, but discussing this with your program director for specifics is always a good idea. Please note that Chromebooks do NOT meet our online exam software's system requirements and because of this we do NOT recommend Chromebooks.

We recommend students purchase a computer with the fastest processor, the most RAM and the largest hard drive storage they can afford, however for minimum requirements we require:

  • i5 processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 500GB Hard Drive (HDD) or Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Wireless-AC (802.11ac)
  • An Ethernet port OR an Ethernet adapter that is compatible with your computer

These specifications should satisfy most students for their entire stay at Le Moyne. A good resource when determining what computer to buy can be read here.

If your TV is less than  three years old, there's a good chance it already is equipped with a Clear QAM tuner. Once you move onto campus, try to run a channel scan.  If your TV cannot find any channels after running multiple scans, you will need to purchase a QAM  Converter Box in order to receive cable television. The iView 3500STBII is a model that works on campus and can be found on Amazon or locally at Best Buy or WalMart.

To see if your current TV model is compatible visit here.

IF Students want a television for their dorm rooms, Students should purchase a TV with a Clear QAM tuner  (look for this in the TV's technical specifications). This is necessary in order for the TV to receive a cable signal from our service provider. For a list of TVs that will work on the Le Moyne campus, see here.

Check List for Move-In

  • Username and Password
Make sure you have your Le Moyne username and password and that it has been reset after receiving your initial temporary password at resetmypassword.lemoyne.edu
  • Coax (TV) and Ethernet Cables (Computer)
We recommend 25 foot cables to provide the most flexibility in setting up your room.
  • Ethernet Adapter
Necessary to connect to the wired campus network if your computer does not have a built-in Ethernet port (most Mac and ultra-thin PC laptops do not). You will need to register this at
deskreg.lemoyne.edu using the device's MAC address.
  • Register your Computer/TV/Game System
Register your device at deskreg.lemoyne.edu once you get onto campus to get online via our wired network using the device's MAC address.
  • Anti-Virus Software
  • TV with Clear QAM Tuner or a Converter Box
  • NO ROUTERS
Personal routers interfere with the campus wireless network and will be disabled by Information Technology
  • NO WIRELESS PRINTERS
If you have a wireless printer, you will have to hook it up to your computer directly. Wireless printers cannot connect to our network. There are public printers in most dorms and all academic buildings.
  • NO STREAMING DEVICES
This includes but is not limited to Chromecast, Echo Dot, Amazon Fire TV Stick, and Roku devices.
