What Technology Should I Bring to Campus?

We require all students to have up to date anti-virus software on their computers. These programs are all free and Mac/Windows compatible. This software ensures that Windows or even Mac PC remains safe and free of malware, ransomware, or even troublesome adware.  Both Mac and PC computers usually already have security applications that provide firewalls and basic scanning.  But it's always a good idea to have something more.  There are many security applications and services available; here's just a few suggestions:

Avast or Avira.

We also recommend having an Anti-malware installed on your computer, we recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Microsoft offers special pricing for higher education students. Visit Microsoft Office for Education for more information. NOTE: The portal login for Office 365 and subsequent downloads and licensing of Office 365, is a service of MICROSOFT, not Le Moyne College and we do not have any control over issues experienced.

HBO Go is available to every student living on campus. Visit hbogo.com, sign in, and select Le Moyne College as your provider.  Use your Le Moyne username and password to sign in. HBO GO is only available when on campus. Dowload more information about HBO Go

The question we get asked most often is "should I get a Mac or PC?" In short,  students should purchase a computer on the platform they are most comfortable with.  Most academic programs do not have a requirement for a specific platform, but discussing this with your program director for specific is always a good idea.

We recommend students purchase a computer with the fastest processor, the most RAM and the largest hard drive storage they can afford, however for minimum requirements we recommend:

i5 processor,

4GB of RAM

500GB hard drive

These specifications should satisfy most students for their entire stay at Le Moyne. A good resource when determining what computer to buy can be read here.

If your TV is less than  three years old, there's a good chance it already is equipped with a Clear QAM tuner. Once you move onto campus, try to run a channel scan.  If your TV cannot find any channels after running multiple scans, you will need to purchase a QAM  Converter Box in order to receive cable television. The iView 3500STBII is a model that works on campus and can be found on Amazon or locally at Best Buy or WalMart.

To see if your current TV model is compatible visit here.

IF Students want a television for their dorm rooms, Students should purchase a TV with a Clear QAM tuner  (look for this in the TV's technical specifications). This is necessary in order for the TV to receive a cable signal from our service provider. For a list of TVs that will work on the Le Moyne campus, see here.
