Information about Le Moyne College's Commencement Ceremony
Graduation and Degree Conferral
All degrees awarded by Le Moyne College are authorized by the New York State Board of Regents and are registered with the New York State Education Department. Conferral of degree does not certify or provide professional licensure – these requirements are separate. See the list of degree programs on the Academic Information page.
Le Moyne College confers all undergraduate and graduate degrees three times per academic year:
- May (date of ceremony as posted in the College’s Academic Calendar)
- August 31
- December 31
Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for a bachelor’s degree, a candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Complete a minimum of 120 credit hours (or more to meet the requirements for the major program and College Core curriculum)
- A minimum of 30 credit hours must be completed at Le Moyne College
- Obtain a passing grade in all courses required for the major program and College Core curriculum
- At least half of all major requirements must be completed at Le Moyne College
- At least half of all minor requirements, if declared, must be completed at Le Moyne
- Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.000 or higher in the following areas:
- Overall GPA
- Major GPA (all majors declared)
- Minor GPA (all minors declared)
- Complete any additional requirements as specified in a particular major program as outlined in the College Catalog
Graduate students must meet the following requirements:
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Successful completion in all requirements for the candidate’s graduate program of study
- Successful completion may be defined differently within each graduate program as listed in the College Catalog
- Minimum of 30 credit hours must be completed at Le Moyne College via institutional credits
Completion of Requirements
- Undergraduate students must complete all degree requirements within 30 days of the anticipated graduation date for the given term. If requirements are not met, a student's graduation date will then be moved to the next available graduation date for degree conferral.
- Similarly, Graduate students must complete all degree requirements within 60 days of the anticipated graduation date for the given term or a student will be moved to the next available graduation date for degree conferral.
Latin Honors
Latin Honors is reserved for undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 60 institutional credits (coursework completed at Le Moyne College) and a final, cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.500 or higher. The student’s cumulative grade point average (truncated to three decimal points) determines eligibility for Latin Honors as follows:
- Cum Laude: 3.500 to 3.699
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.700 to 3.849
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.850 to 4.000
Graduation Application
Students are required to submit a graduation application via Phinfo prior to the following deadlines:
- Feb 1 for May graduates
- May 1 for August graduates
- October 1 for December graduates
Information submitted in the graduation application are used for commencement participation, ordering diploma(s), etc.
Commencement Participation
Le Moyne College holds one undergraduate and one graduate commencement ceremony each year in May. All graduates who are anticipated to complete their degree in that academic year (previous December, current May, and anticipated August graduates) are invited to participate. Participation in the College’s commencement ceremony or name in the College’s commencement program(s) is not proof that an individual was or was not awarded a degree by Le Moyne College.
Diploma Information
Le Moyne College Diplomas include the following information:
- Legal name
- Degree (ex. Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, etc.)
- Degree programs, majors, and minors are not listed
- Degree Date
- Latin Honors and Integral Honors, if applicable, for undergraduate students only
