The purpose of the Summer Stipend program is to provide funding, approximately equivalent to the remuneration for teaching one undergraduate summer course, for faculty members pursuing scholarly research and writing.
B. Terms & Eligibility
Any member of the Faculty Senate returning to full-time faculty position is eligible to apply for a Summer Stipend. Successful applicants will receive a $3,500 stipend. Faculty who receive Summer Stipends may not then engage in other remunerative employment without the consent of the Committee.
C. Application Process
A full application consists of a completed application form together with all supporting material requested on the form. Applications should be submitted via email attachments to email@example.com
as word documents. The Committee reviews applications once a year according to the following schedule:
D. Evaluation Criteria
In addition to the merits of the proposal, the applicant's tenure status and history with Research and Development programs will be considered. Preference is given:
1.To tenure-track applicants;
2. To applicants who have not previously received Summer Stipends from the committee
3. To projects already underway that can be brought to completion with the support of a Summer Stipend
Applicants who are granted a Summer Stipend must submit a brief report to the Chair of the Committee (firstname.lastname@example.org
), the Provost, and the appropriate dean by October 15th (of the year in which the stipend was received).
Please combine requested information—including cover form, project information, and any supporting documentation--into a single file and submit as a single e-mail attachment to email@example.com. (For projects involving pedagogy, chair/program director should separately complete and submit a form, as described below.)

2. Project Information (all applicants--1 or 2 pages).
A. Working title for the project.
B. Full description of project (including goals of the project and its current status).
C. Applicant's qualifications for pursuing the project.
D. History with Research and Development programs.
E. It is the responsibility of applicant at time of application to demonstrate compliance iwth all relevant college policies (e.g., Institutional Reveiw Board, Information Technology)
F. For projects on pedagogy, department chair (and, if relevant, program director) must complete brief form indicating whether project is consistent with department/program planning needs. Form

1. Stipends are paid through the College payroll office and are reported as taxable income to the IRS.
2. A faculty member accepting a summer stipend may not accept any other form of (monetarily) compensated work during the period covered by the stipend. This prohibition includes not only summer teaching, but also all other forms of remunerative activities.Minor exceptions include service as summer chair, summer advising, or activities equivalent in minimal compensation and minimal demands.
