The College was recently informed by National Grid that it will need to shut off power to the majority of the Le Moyne campus and approximately 1,400 neighboring residences on Wednesday, July 3. The outage is necessary to replace a number of utility poles that transports electricity from the substation located at the corner of Springfield and Thompson roads, which serves the majority of campus.
The planned outage is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. the 3rd and will last four to six hours. The alternate/rain date is scheduled for Friday, July 5. Buildings impacted will be Grewen, Reilly, Coyne Science Center, science addition, Foery, Dablon, Campus Center, Noreen Reale Falcone Library, W. Carroll Coyne Center for the Performing Arts, Mitchell, townhouses behind Mitchell, Panasci Family Chapel, Loyola Jesuit Residence, St. Mary's, Harrison, Le Moyne Plaza, 302 Demong, Le Moyne View, Veterans' House, Alumni House and 543 Fayette.
Offices and classrooms with windows should have adequate natural light during this time period. Generators and battery backup systems will provide emergency lighting. Employees should power-off all office technology prior to leaving campus on Tuesday, July 2, including, but not limited to, computers, monitors, printers, copiers, scanners. IT staff will do the same for all classroom and event spaces.
Campus phones, WiFi and network/internet service will remain available in the library, Campus Center, Coyne Science Center, science addition and Mitchell Hall (floors 2 - 4) for use by laptop and mobile devices that are battery powered. In addition, any phone without an LED panel (analog phones) including emergency elevator, classroom, residential hallway and blue light phones will continue to function during the power outage. This will not affect water supply to the buildings. During this time, security can be reached at 315-445-4444, but should that number not be in service call 315-432-4550.
Departments should plan ahead to engage in work that may not require desktops computers (meetings, spring cleaning, etc.) If you have any questions contact the Physical Plant at ext. 4500.
