An essay by Douglas Egerton, Ph.D., of the Department of History, will appear in Black Civil War Soldiers and Their Fight for Manhood, forthcoming in 2027 from the University of Georgia Press. The essay is titled “Embattled Manhood: The Complicated Public and Private Life of Stephen A. Swails."
