Leigh Fought, Ph.D., of the Department of History, participated in a Black History Month Panel "Frederick Douglass and the Woman Who Led Him to Freedom" hosted by the Hon. Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission at the County Courthouse in New York City on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026. Fought is the author of Women in the World of Frederick Douglass, about the women who supported the work of the19th century Black abolitionist, published in 2027. Her most recent work is Given Her Time: Sally Hemings, a biography of the mother of five of Thomas Jefferson's enslaved children.
