Alison Marganski, of the Department of Anthroplolgy, Criminology and Sociology, was formally invited by the Director of Research and Policy for the Mass Casualty Commission and participated in public proceedings in the form of a roundtable discussion on July 18, 2022 in Canada. The roundtable consisted of select experts in field who would talk about the connection between gender-based violence (including intimate partner violence and family violence) and mass casualties based on research, advocacy, and applied work. The Commission was created to after the Government of Canada and Province of Nova Scotia issued an Order in Council to officially establish the Commission in 2020 following the April 18-19, 2020 mass casualty in Nova Scotia, Canada. Dr. Marganski's contributions will help the Commission in formulating “lessons learned” and crafting final recommendations for violence prevention, safety and justice.
