In June, 35 seniors in the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) graduated from area high schools. A total of 100 percent of the STEP graduating class will attend college in the fall including eight that will be attending Le Moyne and transitioning into the CSTEP Program. Other colleges the students will be attending include: Clarkson, Syracuse, Cornell, Wells, St. Bonaventure, Oswego and OCC. Collectively, the students were awarded tens of thousands of dollars in local, national and institutional scholarships.

During the 2017-18 academic year, this group completed 1,442 hours in internships and spent over 1,500 hours being tutored and advised during and after school and on Saturdays. The STEP students continuously surpass their peers across the state in program participation, graduation and college enrollment rates.

Finally, for the past five weeks, 25 STEP and CSTEP students have been enrolled in a robust summer program focused on personal, academic and professional development. Each week students participate in paid campus internships through our partnership with CNY Works and weekly classes that focus on reading, writing, quantitative reasoning, and SAT and Regents exam preparation.  Additionally, students are engaging in weekly community service and site visits. Some highlights of the program thus far have been visiting the anatomy lab at the NY Chiropractic College, cleaning up the city’s North Side with Yeshua Ministries, gardening at the Stone Soup Garden and completing the challenge course at Mercy Mountain.

The program will run through August 9th.  Anyone interested in learning more about the program can visit us in Romero Hall.
