Ternikar Gives Book Talk at University of South Florida

Farha Ternikar, Ph.D., of the Department of Anthropology, Criminology and Sociology delivered a talk titled "Beyond Hijab and Halal" as part of University of South Florida's lecture series, Engaged Citizenship.

Through feminist, intersectional, and sociology of consumption theories, Ternikar provided insights into the nuanced ways that Muslim women negotiate their gendered, classed, racial and religious identities. She offered an insightful  exploration of the ways that this group of American women maintain, form and re-invent new identities through consumption while maintaining and renegotiating inherited ethno-religious traditions.
