Giunta Co-organizes Symposium, Presents Paper

Carmen Giunta, Ph.D., professor emeritus of chemistry, presented a paper and poster titled "Vis Tellurique of Alexandre-Émile Béguyer de Chancourtois" at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego, Calif. The paper was part of a symposium on the 150th anniversary of the periodic table organized by Giunta and two other chemists, Vera Mainz and Greg Girolami of the University of Illinois. The subject of the presentation was a French mineralogist who saw the periodic behavior of elements, albeit through a glass darkly, several years before the first recognized periodic tables.
