Hilary McManus, Ph.D., of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, was an invited speaker for the Presidential Symposium at the Phycological Society of America conference held last month in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Dr. McManus presented about the need to increase representation of women in STEM research and leadership roles, the barriers and biases women in sciences face, and some of the actions that can be taken to break down barriers and address existing biases.
