Leigh Fought, Ph.D., of the Department of History, described the life of James Hemings, the enslaved chef of Thomas Jefferson and sister to Sally Hemings, at a dinner meeting of the The Century Club in downtown Syracuse on February 5, 2025. Macaroni and cheese was served at the meal, a dish brought to the United States by Hemings at the end of the 18th century.
