How Can We Help?

At Le Moyne, students are guided as they discern their futures, considering their values, academic abilities, career goals, and leadership potential. All students are matched with an academic advisor in their major field of study and undeclared students work specifically with advisors who have experience with major exploration. Students meet regularly with their advisors during their first semester and then meet at a minimum of once each semester after that. Coaches within the Student Success Center are also available to provide advising support to students when needed.

Disability Support Services provides and arranges accommodations for students with permanent or temporary physical, medical, learning, and/or psychological disabilities.

The Office for Academic Advising and Support will, as appropriate, provide ESOL students with the opportunity to take their exams in our office. Students whose primary language is not English are not entitled to special testing accommodations, and professors have no legal obligation to offer ESOL students alternative testing arrangements. However, many ESOL students find that extra time, and in certain circumstances a word processor, help them demonstrate the true depth of their knowledge. It is at the professor's discretion to permit such alternative arrangements. If a student is interested in seeking alternative testing arrangements, he or she must first meet with a professional staff member in the office; the student's needs will be assessed, and opportunities and procedures will be explained. In addition, students whose primary language is not English are encouraged to take advantage of Le Moyne's free tutoring services.

Additional Resources for ESOL Students/Instructors

Idiom of the Day: This web site displays a random entry each day from the Cobuild Dictionary of Idioms.

Internet TESL Journal: This is a good resource for teachers of ESL.

Linguistic Funland URI: A good resource for teachers and English students. It is a stepping off point for TESL/TEFL people.

Purdue Online Writing Lab: Students are able to consult with academic peer tutors online. There are also over 300 instructional handouts, ESL help, and other writing resources.

Many students enter college unsure of what to major in, often because they have too many interests or don't know enough about their academic options. Using a strengths-based approach through the TRAC (Discover your True Academic Calling) Program, Le Moyne's trained student success coaches partner with career advisors to support undeclared students in a journey of reflection, discernment, and goal setting. Through an intentional process rooted in Jesuit values, students meet individually and in small groups with their coach and advisor to consider what brings them joy, what are they good at, and what is the world calling them to do.

Le Moyne's tutoring program provides a vast array of free services to support students' learning. Tutors include nearly 50 upper-division students who have excelled in their coursework and have been recommended by faculty. All tutors participate in our College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) internationally certified tutor training, allowing them to further their tutoring knowledge and skills. Whether through individual appointments, study groups, or supplemental instruction workshops, students can gain valuable strategies to improve their academic performance. These services are housed in a newly renovated space adjacent to Le Moyne’s Quantitative Reasoning Center and Writing Center. Students can schedule appointments online at lemoyne.mywconline.com

The QRC Pop Up Clinics are opportunities for students to get in their courses from QRC Clinic Leaders.  Clinic leaders are recommended by faculty and attend tutor training at the beginning of the semester.  If you need help in any of the courses listed consider popping into a clinic at any point and working with one of the fantastic clinic leaders.

Boost sessions are mini lectures designed in consultation with your professor. The goal of boost sessions is to help you review foundational material before you need to build on it in class. Request a boost session

Our programming is designed to cheer on students as they celebrate their successes and provide care to students when they face challenges. Through the college's retention efforts, students of concern referral program, and academic probation coaching, Le Moyne students are supported along their college journey. Our student success coaches, professionals trained to assist students with varying needs, are available to help students reflect on their experiences and identify strategies and resources. Each semester, coaches lead a variety of workshops covering topics such as money management and financial literacy, understanding core requirements, and resiliency and persistence. This success series is designed to enhance students’ understanding of valuable topics while providing necessary resources for them to take advantage of during their time at Le Moyne.

The Student Success Center also offers support for students unrelated to academics, such as the Campus Cupboard and Phins Share Meals program. The division of Student Development, Student Government Association and Sodexo Dining Services developed Phins Share Meals, a no-cost meal program available to Le Moyne College students facing food insecurity. Recipients receive a designated number of meal swipes available during the semester in which they applied to the program. The meal swipes allow the recipient to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner in the LaCasse Dining Center on the first floor of the campus center.
