Delia Popescu, Ph.D., of the Department of Political Science, delivered the talk titled "Shadow of the Hegemon: Eastern Europe, Havel, and their Interpreters" at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. The talk addressed a current debate within comparative political theory regarding the method by which we engage with other traditions of thought, particularly when it comes to the "close but obscure" presence of Eastern European thinking. Popescu used the work of Vaclav Havel and its reception to exemplify the point.
