Sabbatical leave is a periodic release from regular academic duties to enable the teacher to engage in intensive work on pedagogical development or scholarly research.
The College provides a sabbatical leave, usually every seven years, for each tenured member of the faculty. All faculty rights are continued during this leave, and this period is counted toward one's years in rank. During this period, no other full-time employment may be assumed. For more complete information, applicants should refer to the Faculty Handbook.
C. Application Process
To assure each tenured faculty member a timely leave, and at the same time to meet departmental needs, the Academic Dean will consult with each department chair to arrange a suitable rotation of eligible faculty. By September 15 of each academic year, the Academic Dean will provide the Committee with a list of qualified candidates whom the Committee will formally invite to apply for sabbatical leave.
The applicant must submit a fully detailed proposal to the Committee and should provide his or her Department Chair with an informational copy of the proposal. Committee deliberations will be limited to the evaluation of the merit and feasibility of the sabbatical project only.
Proposals must be clear, specific and fully detailed. The Committee reviews sabbatical project applications according to the following schedule:
D. Evaluation Criteria
Sabbatical leave for either one semester with full pay or for one academic year at half pay may be requested for one or more of the following activities:
1. Research projects leading to publication of books or articles, or papers to be presented at professional conferences.
2. The development of new courses to be offered soon after return to campus, or the thorough reworking of courses. (A statement of support for the proposed course(s) from the appropriate department chair or program director will be helpful in evaluating your sabbatical application.)
3. Programs of study undertaken at other institutions for further development of scholarly and professional skills.
4. Travel and study for purposes of strengthening range and depth as a teacher.
5. Part-time teaching positions in other institutions, or work and research in libraries, laboratories, or other organizations, which will enhance teaching effectiveness upon return to Le Moyne.
6. Systematic plans of reading or research which will refresh the faculty member as a teacher-scholar and will be professionally valuable.
Sabbatical leave will not be granted for:
- Travel for purposes of general enrichment only.
- General review or revisions of courses taught.
- Development of vocational skills.
- Full-time teaching positions at other institutions.
Within three months of their return to full-time duties, faculty members shall send written reports to both the Chief Academic Officer and the President of the College about their progress on the sabbatical projects they had outlined in their applications.

Please combine requested information--including cover form, application narrative, CV, and any supporting documentation-- into a single file and submit as a single e-mail attachment to email@example.com. (For projects involving pedagogy, chair/program director should separately complete and submit a form, as described below.)
B. Summary of the project(s) to be undertaken
C. Description of each project's goals and implementation plans. Please, also provide specific information regarding the intended publication process of your work, namely as to the reputation of the presses or journal that you intend to submit your book or article for publication and the refereeing procedures involved; in addition, for articles, provide the journal’s rejection rate and circulation. It is especially useful for the Committee to have information that will help to gauge the importance of your work to its discourse community. Measures of the impact of the scholarship vary by discipline and can take the form, for example, of reviews or citations or more formal “impact factors” metrics. Please provide the Committee whatever information is suitable for your discipline so the Committee can better assess the importance of your scholarship. ,For scholarly presentations or performances, please explain the stature of the organization under whose auspices they will take place.
D. Overall timetable showing the key dates for each project listed. (Timetable should begin with the starting date of the first project, even if that date comes before the beginning of leave, and end with the completion of the last project, even if that date is after the end of leave.)
E. Evidence (applicant's qualifications and track-record) that applicant can complete projects to be undertaken should be supplied in the form of a C.V. listing scholarly publications
F. Complete list of all agreements made or pending with other institutions, publishers, or organizations concerning projects listed on the cover form or concerning activities not listed but that will take place in part or full during the leave period.
G.Request for access to any Le Moyne facilities necessary during the leave period. You must explicitly state whether or not you are requesting exclusive access to your office during your proposed sabbatical.
H. For projects on pedagogy, department chair (and, if relevant, program director) must complete brief form indicating whether project is consistent with department/program planning needs. Form
should be submitted directly to firstname.lastname@example.org .
1. A faculty member on sabbatical leave may not accept fulltime employment at another institution.
2. The Committee passes judgment only on the merits of proposed sabbatical activities. All matters concerning the scheduling of sabbatical leaves (including postponements) are within the province of the Academic Dean, not the Committee.
3. Those eligible to apply for sabbatical leave receive letters of invitation from the Committee in September.
4. It is actually the President of the College who grant sabbatical leaves after receiving recommendations from the Committee, the Academic Dean, and the AVP.
